American Optical Microscope – History And Facts
Through the user of visible light and several lenses an American Optical microscope allows you to magnify items that would not normally be seen by the naked eye. Of all the kinds of microscopes available today this one is the simplest of them to use.
The first of these microscopes was created back in the 18th Century and even today it is proving popular with people the world over. This is as a result of it being so compact, so simple to use and of course they are relatively cheap to buy.
The kind of American optical microscope that you may have at a home is often referred to as the simple microscope. This is because this type uses just one set of lenses to allow you to magnify the sample placed under them.
However, there are more advanced models of these machines and these are the ones that are most frequently used in hospitals and laboratories and even some schools. With these types of optical microscopes you will find that they use several lenses to allow one to compound and so increase the magnification of the item being looked at.
As with American Optical microscopes you will find that there are two main lens systems within them. The lens that is closest to the object that you are going to be examining is known as the objective one. Whilst of course the one through which you will be looking is known as the eyepiece. Although you cannot see them but both where the objective lens and eyepiece lens are there are several lenses combined together.
Originally when the optical microscope was first developed to help provide illumination below an object a mirror would be used. However, today now a strong lamp is used and this is what provides strong and constant illumination to the object being examined.
As mentioned above there are a number of places where an American optical microscope is now being used. Mainly they are used in these places to examine small parts of materials or a squash or even smear preparation. This is because these use light from below which is allowed to pass through the object being examined and into the lenses and so be viewed. If used in this way then in order for it to be clearly examined it is best if the object is half transparent.
Although above is the most usual way of such microscopes to be used in some cases it can be used to examine the structure of metal as well. Plus if the power of the microscope is kept low then it could be used by some to enable them to examine plants and small living animals if they wish. However, the more powerful types of American optical microscopes we see being used in laboratories are the kind that allows one to examine bacteria.
It is hard to believe that before the invention of the optical microscope many of the advancements in the world of medicine would not have taken place. It is because of the invention of say the American optical microscope that we now understand fully how the blood circulates around the body and this was made possible through the ability to examine the way in which small blood vessels in the body behave.
